Richboro Resident Announces Candidacy for School Board

Denise Brooks, a research director and longtime volunteer in the Council Rock School District, is running to represent Region 3 on the Council Rock School Board.

Denise Brooks, a research director and longtime community volunteer, has announced her candidacy for Council Rock School Board’s Region 3. The seat is currently held by Bernadette Heenan. Region 3 includes Northampton voting districts 1, 11 and 15. Brooks has cross filed, which means Republicans and Democrats can vote for her in the primary election on May 21.  Brooks has lived in Northampton Township since 1988. She resides in Richboro with her husband and two children, who are graduates of Council Rock High School South. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Council Rock Education Foundation and the Executive Board of Citizens For Education. The Diaper Bank Wins $5,000 from Walmart

In its “12 Days of Giving” Holiday Campaign, Walmart donated $5,000 to a Richboro nonprofit that helps families in need.

On the fifth day of its “12 Days of Giving” holiday campaign, Walmart awarded $120,000 to 14 nonprofits “that are creating a better future for children across the country,” according to a news release. The Greater Philadelphia Diaper Bank, based in Richboro, was awarded $5,000 from Walmart Friday for its initiative. The Diaper Bank is a non-profit that holds diaper drives to help needy families and individuals in the region by partnering with shelters, food pantries and similar organizations. "There is a hole in the 'safety net'," said Pat Kennedy, president and founder of the Diaper Bank, in an email. "You can't buy diapers with food stamps; WIC doesn't provide diapers and Medicare only provides diapers for those in hospice." Since March…

Hearing for Chalfont Cop Continued

Jon Cousin's preliminary hearing has been postponed until October 11 in Richboro.

  The preliminary hearing for the Chalfont police officer accused of lying to investigators about being shot on the job has been continued until October. Jon Cousin, 30, of Chalfont, scheduled for a hearing Thursday, but it has been delayed until Oct. 11. Cousin faces a host of charges in relation to the late August incident that occurred while he was the lone officer on patrol in Chalfont Borough. The charges include: false alarm to an agency of public safety, two counts of possessing an instrument of crime with intent, false reports where the offense did not occur, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct. Alleged Drunk Attacks Police Officers in Richboro

John Gwiazdowski, 26, is facing several charges related to the Memorial Day morning incident.

A Richboro man is facing several charges after it is alleged he attacked Northampton police officers in a drunken rage. John M. Gwiazdowski, 26, of Second Street Pike, faces a felony count of aggravated assault, a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest and several other lesser charges after his early morning Memorial Day arrest, according to a court docket. Shortly before 3 a.m. Monday, a police officer on patrol found Gwiazdowski sleeping face down in the grass outside the Tru Mark Financial Credit Union in the 900 block of Second Street Pike, just yards from the back of the police station, according to an affidavit of probable cause. While some enjoy the Memorial Day weekend with cookouts and festivities, many residents take time to reflect and remember those veterans who sacrificed their lives so we may enjoy our freedom in this country. Addisville Commons Hearings Progress Slowly

The Board of Supervisors met last night to continue discussion on the Davis Pontiac site.

While it is moving along meeting by meeting, the process for the Board of Supervisors to decide whether or not to approve the Addisville Commons development continued slowly last night. The Board of Supervisors met at Richboro Middle School at 7 to continue the decision-making process about the Dreher Group's application to put a new development in the old Davis Pontiac site. The auditorium was half full of local residents who, despite previous meetings' performance, kept relatively quiet throughout the evening. Friends of Churchville Nature Center’s Annual Fundraiser Tonight

Tonight's auction is open to the public and will benefit Churchville Nature Center's many programs.

This year's Fundraising Auction and Member's Social will be held at Churchvillle Nature Center Friends Board President Dan Wasserstrom's Richboro home, 374 Worthington Mill Road. You need not be a member to attend. The evening will begin with a short annual member's meeting at 6:15 p.m. (open to the public). After that, guests are invited to socialize indoors with refreshments while perusing the silent auction items. Or they can choose to enjoy the outdoor patio before the auction begins.
