'It's a Dream Come True'

Miracle League of Northampton opened its new field Sunday.

After nearly three years of fundraising and hard work, the Miracle League of Northampton, which organizes a baseball and softball league for children and adults with mental and physical disabilities, officially opened their new sports complex Sunday afternoon at Municipal Park during a well-attended ceremony. Over 100 special needs baseball and softball players of all ages were on hand for the opening of baseball diamond and a nearby multi-purpose sports field designed so players – many of them young children – can participate in sports with ease. Miracle League of Northampton’s board of directors member, Debbi Katz, looked out at the faces of the smiling players Sunday as she explained that Northampton’s field was the only one like it in …

Spa Fundraiser to Benefit Miracle League

With certain treatments, patrons can support both a local business and a local cause.

Spa Director Sid Shah said when he first began working at The Spa at Richboro, he wanted to start a commuity investment program with other local businesses. However, his amateur status and a high business overhead discouraged him from doing so and he decided to donate gift certificates to local causes instead. Shah said he then read TOMS Founder Blake Mycoskie's book, "Start Something That Matters," in January and it changed his outlook. It inspired him to restart the community investment program. "We were slow, and I decided that the spa is purpose-driven and not profit-driven," he said. The Spa is currently offering certain deals on services, with part of the proceeds benefitting the Miracle League of Northampton. The special needs …

"Field of Dreams" One Step Closer to Reality

Soon local special needs children will be able to do more than only "run the bases in their dreams."

If you build it, they will come. This famous "Field of Dreams" line set the stage Thursday night for the groundbreaking of the new Miracle League sports complex at the Northampton Municipal Park. Townspeople gathered at 5 p.m. to hear officals and organizers such as Supervisors Chairman George Komelasky, Rep. Scott Petri (R-Bucks) and Board President Joe Hand speak about the time and effort that it took to reach that moment. "This field really represents the ultimate gift and it's the gift of community," Petri said. "This would not have happened without all of you supporting the project from day one." When Hand spoke, he was visibly emotional near the end of his speech when he said that the fields would fulfill "a dream for the countless …

Miracle League to Break Ground on New Sports Complex

Tonight the organization will officially begin to create a new special needs playing field at the Municipal Park.

Two and a half years of fundraising will culminate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Miracle League of Northampton's new playing field tonight. "We’re finally able to break ground," said Debbi Katz, who is on the board of directors. "We're extremely excited." The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. and the organization will serve light refreshments afterwards. The complex is the first of its kind in the Bucks County area, with the closest similar complex in Hamilton, NJ. The field will be rubberized for ease of mobility for wheelchairs and walkers and everything down to the dugouts will be handicap accessible, Katz said. There will be two fields in the Municipal Park complex. One will be for softball, almost exclusively, and the other as a …
