Spring Hydrant Flushing Begins This Week

Residents in the areas being flushed may notice discoloration in the water, which should not be used for drinking, cooking and washing clothes that day.

The annual spring flushing of fire hydrants and water mains in Northampton will begin Tuesday. Residents in the areas being flushed may notice discoloration in the water. The water should not be used for drinking, cooking or washing clothes between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. the day of the flushing. Township Holds Leaf Bag Sale

Northampton Township will sell leaf bags on April 20 at a cost of $20 for 50 bags.

Northampton Township will be selling leaf bags on April 20 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the township Public Works Garage, 65 Township Rd. Leaf bags will be sold in bundles of 50 for $20 (cash only). Yard waste collection for Northampton Township residents starts this week. Through Dec. 15, unlimited yard waste will be collected for composting the day after trash is picked up. Residents should use biodegradable, 30-gallon paper bags or trash containers that do not weigh more than 50 pounds when full, according to information from Northampton Township. Yard waste in plastic bag will not be collected. Tree branches and shrubbery must be no more than 36 inches long and less than three inches in diameter. Braches must be bundled and tied, taped or …

Yard waste in plastic bag will not be collected. Tree branches and shrubbery must be no more than 36 inches long and less than three inches in diameter. Braches must be bundled and tied, taped or put in biodegradable bags. Branches or shrubbery cannot extend over the top of the can or bag, according to the township.

Two E-Waste Recycling Events Planned

Northampton Township has scheduled two e-waste recycling events for April 20 and Sept. 28.

Northampton Township has partnered with Leck Waste Services to schedule two e-waste recycling events so residents have a place to properly dispose of computers and other electronics safely. The first e-waste recycling event will be held April 20 from 8 a.m. to noon and the second will be held Sept. 28 , also from 8 a.m. to noon. Both events will be held at Leck, 237 Jacksonville Road, Ivyland. According to township officials, a new state law prohibits the township’s trash hauler from taking electronics. The law, the Covered Device Recycling Act 108, prohibits computers, keyboards, televisions, printers, microwave ovens, fax machines and other electronics from disposal at Department of Environmental Protection solid waste landfills.    …

Cell phones can be recycled anytime via specially marked boxes at Shop-n-Bag (in the entry way), Northampton Library (by the resource desk), Northampton Township Building (just past the entry on the left-side shelf), and the orthodontist office of Dr. Cathleen George in Richboro (by the stairs). Tax Structure Shift Considered for Council Rock

Council Rock is considering eliminating the Per Capita and Occupation Assessment tax and replacing it with an alternative revenue source.

Council Rock is considering eliminating the Per Capita and Occupation Assessment taxes due to the high cost of collection and overhead. The Council Rock School Board last week voted to have its solicitor look into the issue of eliminating those taxes and replacing them with an alternative revenue source.  Board Member Bill Foster, a member of the district’s Finance Committee, said the Per Capita and Occupation Assessment taxes are inefficient and complicated to collect.  The average Council Rock taxpayer receives three tax bills—Real Estate, Per Capita and Occupation Assessment—resulting in a $6.15 collector fee per residence.
