Obama Endorses Same-Sex Marriage: PA Advocates Rejoice

President Obama made his historic pronouncement during an interview with ABC News.

President Barack Obama has publicly come out in support of gay marriage, the first time in history that a sitting U.S. President has ever done so.  Obama, who during the last presidential election stated that he opposed gay marriage, gave the news to ABC News' Robin Roberts in an interview that will air on ABC's “Good Morning America" today. "I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even …

'It's a Dream Come True'

Miracle League of Northampton opened its new field Sunday.

After nearly three years of fundraising and hard work, the Miracle League of Northampton, which organizes a baseball and softball league for children and adults with mental and physical disabilities, officially opened their new sports complex Sunday afternoon at Municipal Park during a well-attended ceremony. Over 100 special needs baseball and softball players of all ages were on hand for the opening of baseball diamond and a nearby multi-purpose sports field designed so players – many of them young children – can participate in sports with ease. Miracle League of Northampton’s board of directors member, Debbi Katz, looked out at the faces of the smiling players Sunday as she explained that Northampton’s field was the only one like it in …

Comcast Cares Day to Benefit CNC

Comcast employees, friends and family will clean up the Churchville Nature Center on Saturday.

The Churchville Nature Center is the lucky recipient of two makeovers in one week's time. First, volunteers emptied about 400 lbs of trash from the center's grounds on International Coastal Cleanup Day last weekend, and on Saturday roughly 65 Comcast employees, families and friends will volunteer for the company's annual Comcast Cares Day. From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 21, the group will work on landscaping, shed building, butterfly house repairs and beautification for the grounds, according to a release. They are part of a group of 67,000 volunteers nationwide that will work on various projects across the country. For more information, visit Comcast's website.

Miracle League Field to Open This Weekend

The Miracle League of Northampton will hold its opening day April 22.

The time has come for a new season of Miracle League baseball – but after three years of hard work, they finally have a home turf. While most of the Miracle League's activity up until this point has been all about the fundraising, Katz said now it can be all about the kids. The construction has been ahead of or on schedule so far, with the field's final surface being poured last week. All that's left then is the paint, the scoreboard and the kids to fill it.  The league's plan is to make Opening Day a huge celebration. There will be a short parade at 2 p.m. feauturing the kids, some surprise guests, banners and hopefully a band. They'll have a short dedication and then a special first game. The Miracle League is a national charitable …

Baseball Seniors Give Back to Local Youth

The Council Rock South baseball team varsity seniors organized an event on March 24 to help young players prepare for the upcoming season.

On Saturday, March 24, the seniors from the Council Rock South baseball team ran a clinic for boys ages 8 to 12 to get them ready for the upcoming season. Booster Club member Christine Callahan said it was nice to see the older boys giving back to their younger counterparts "all for the love of the game." The clinic, held at Council Rock South, included different drills for all positions and served as a fundraiser for the varsity team. Sponsors included Margiotti & Kroll Pediatrics, Big League Baseball Academy, Makefield Orthopedics, Fit Life and Kampus Klothes. One 10-year-old's parents were thrilled with the clinic. 'Millions for Mike' Will Help Local Family

Proceeds go toward the family's medical bills and similar expenses.

The Taubs didn't ask for the devastation they've endured for the past year and a half after husband and father Mike Taub was in a serious car accident, but an event this weekend will help them overcome some of the financial burden. Two family friends have organized a benefit for the Holland-area family to help pay medical bills and other expenses. It will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 at General Grants American Bar and Grill, 2457 Grant Ave., Philadelphia. A $30 ticket buys 10 raffle entries and dinner – a beef and beer buffet. Organizer Tara Alker said she's gathered all types of raffle prizes from Phillies tickets to a country club membership to a party at a local bowling alley. This isn't the first fundraiser …

Mosaic Project Will Decorate Northampton's Library

The entire community is invited to help put the project together.

Kids, parents and grandparents alike have gotten their hands dirty in the past few weeks to create tiles for a new mosaic project which will decorate the children's section of the Free Library of Northampton. After the tiles are completed, they will go to Artist in Residence Director Terri Herring's studio and they'll be glazed, dried and fired. The artists will return to the library, sketch the murals on the wall and assemble them with the community's tiles and some of their own.  The tiles cost $20 each for were $50 for three, and the library has already held two work sessions with Artists in Residence present to help them properly assemble their works of art.  The project allows members of the community to be a part of a lasting piece…

The event, held Sunday at Council Rock High School South, allowed the girls to earn a Bucks County scouting patch.

Local girl scouts and their parents celebrated the 100th anniversary of the organization during an event Sunday at Council Rock High School South. The event was designed to allow them to earn a Bucks County patch.  The girls cycled through a variety of activities to earn the patch. They also brought donations for local service organizations, including the Baby Bundles program, which benefits local needy mothers and infants, and non-perishable food for local food pantries.

Winner: Best Family-Friendly Restaurant

The popular Jake's Eatery has taken the win this week.

Northampton voted and overwhelmingly chose Jake's Eatery in Richboro as their favorite place to take the family for a meal out. The popular American-style restaurant has a second location in Newtown they opened just last year, and is almost always filled with customers at peak hours. Jake's scored 68 percent of the vote. They offer original and unique specials every week but keep the same favorites their regulars love like the "Jakewich."  Read Patch's review of Jake's here. Behind Jake's was Giuseppe's with 16 percent. Be sure to vote in next week's poll, the best place to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
