Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick and Democratic challenger Kathy Boockvar are vying to represent the 8th Congressional District, which includes Bucks County and parts of Montgomery County and Northeast Philadelphia. Fitzpatrick confirmed that he voted for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan this morning, according to Levittown Patch guest editor Tom Sofield. Just a few miles away from where thousands of people gathered to see Mitt Romney speak, key Democrats held a press conference reiterating their stance on women’s issues at a hotel in the Langhorne section of Middletown. Kathy Boockvar, congressional candidate for the 8th district, spoke first and began by noting the Democrats and Republicans have “stark differences” for the nation. In a debate that mimicked the tenor of the national political climate, candidates for the 8th Congressional District discussed the economy, federal spending, national security, foreign policy and social issues during a debate Thursday at Bucks County Community College’s Lower Bucks Campus in Bristol. The debate between incumbent Mike Fitzpatrick, a Republican, and Democrat Kathy Boockvar lasted just over an hour and was moderated by BCCC faculty member Bill Pezza. Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick will debate Democratic challenger Kathy Boockvar Thursday at the Lower Bucks Campus of Bucks County Community College. The Lower Bucks Campus is located at 1304 Veterans Highway, Bristol. The candidates are vying to represent the 8th Congressional District, which includes Bucks County and parts of Montgomery County and Northeast Philadelphia. The debate begins at 11 a.m. This will be the second of the three debates between the two candidates. The first was held Oct. 18 in Lansdale.
