A former Chalfont Borough police officer accused of faking his own shooting now faces formal arraignment in November in Doylestown.
The former Chalfont Borough police officer accused of faking his own on-duty shooting waived his preliminary hearing on Thursday. Jon Cousin, 30, is facing misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, false alarms to agencies of public safety, false reports to law enforcement, official oppression and possession of an instrument of crime. Prosecutors dropped a charge of recklessly endangering another person and added a count of official oppression. The new charge is related to the numerous traffic stops police made in their search for the suspects. The preliminary hearing for the Chalfont police officer accused of lying to investigators about being shot on the job has been continued until October. Jon Cousin, 30, of Chalfont, scheduled for a hearing Thursday, but it has been delayed until Oct. 11. Cousin faces a host of charges in relation to the late August incident that occurred while he was the lone officer on patrol in Chalfont Borough. The charges include: false alarm to an agency of public safety, two counts of possessing an instrument of crime with intent, false reports where the offense did not occur, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct. Jon M. Cousin, 30, of Chalfont, the officer charged with faking a shooting on Westview Avenue Monday morning, will head to a preliminary hearing in Bucks County on September 6. According to Bucks County Department of Corrections, Cousin remains in jail as of Wednesday in lieu of 10 percent of $150,000 bail. OUTSIDE PHILADELPHIA -- A local police officer who said he was shot during a traffic stop early Monday morning has been accused of faking the shooting. Chalfont Borough Patrolman Jon Cousin, 30, was taken into custody late Tuesday evening by Bucks County Detectives. He faces charges that he lied when he claimed he was rushed by one man and then shot by another in the chest-area of his bullet-proof vest. Cousin, a father of 1-month-old triplets and another young child, was taken into custody at the county courthouse in Doylestown. Police from around the region are searching for multiple suspects who are accused of shooting Chalfont Borough police Officer Jon Cousin in the chest shortly after 3 a.m. Monday. The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Lenape Valley Swim Club in the 100 block of Westview Avenue, according to police scanner reports. Police said the officer was wearing a bullet-proof vest when he was shot in the chest. The officer was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital for treatment and released by morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
