Corbett: No Insurance Deductibles Will be Applied to Sandy Damage

Governor Tom Corbett advised insurance companies that deductibles, which can be up to five percent of the insured value of a home, should not be applied to any Hurricane Sandy homeowner insurance claims.

Below is a press release from the Pennsylvania Insurance Department: Harrisburg – Governor Tom Corbett today announced that Pennsylvania homeowners will not have to pay hurricane deductibles on insurance claims stemming from damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. “Insurance deductibles could have added significant costs to Pennsylvanians already struggling to clean up and rebuild after Hurricane Sandy,” Corbett said. “Insurance companies have deployed catastrophe teams to Pennsylvania and they have been advised that hurricane deductibles should not be applied to any homeowner’s insurance claims.” Some homeowner’s insurance policies for properties in Pennsylvania have special “hurricane,” “tropical storm” or “named storm” deductibles based on a…

Governor Corbett Declares State Of Emergency

Governor Tom Corbett declared a state of emergency today ahead of Hurricane Irene.

Governor Tom Corbett declared a statewide disaster emergency to enable state, county and municipal governments to respond effectively to the impact of Hurricane Irene. According to a news release, the proclamation "authorizes state agencies to use all available resources and personnel as necessary to cope with this emergency situation." Corbett issued the disaster proclamation Friday morning after meeting with Glenn Cannon, director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, and other emergency officials at their headquarters in Harrisburg, as stated in the release.
