The Northampton Township Republican Committee has created a new $500 scholarship for a local graduating senior. The committee's Excellence in Government & Citizenship Scholarship Program will make its first award to a Northampton Township resident at the end of this school year. According to David Breidinger, chairman of the local Republican committee, the award is based on an essay competition and is open to any high school senior who resides in the township. To be eligible, the student must be on track to graduate from high school during the current academic year and have plans to attend an education program at an accredited college or training facility. Bucks County is preparing to be in the political limelight just two days before the presidential election. Mitt Romney announced Thursday that he will hold a rally at Shady Brook Farm in Lower Makefield Township. It’s the latest indication that Romney believes he has a shot to win Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes on Nov. 6. Shady Brook Farm General Manager Dave Fleming said the whole thing happened “very quickly.” He said the Romney campaign approached him two days ago inquiring if the farm would be available for a rally. Fleming agreed and Shady Brook was added to a list of six locations being considered for the Philadelphia-area rally. The economy, jobs, military, foreign policy and education were just some of the issues concerning former Gov. Mitt Romney's supporters who came to hear the candidate speak Friday at Valley Forge Military Academy and College. Wendy Neininger of Willistown Township, a registered Democrat, is supporting Romney. In 2008, Neininger supported Hillary Clinton, but when Clinton lost the Democratic primary to President Barack Obama, Neininger changed her allegiance. Now, she volunteers at the Romney Victory Office in West Chester. Neininger is concerned about the job market and said college students are scared about the future. “It’s not just the older workers who can’t find jobs; it’s the younger workers too,” she said.
