Cindy and Ed Hughes participated in a flag presentation at the township building to honor their recently deployed son, Christopher.
The parents of a recently deployed Army soldier were honored as part of Northampton Township's Patriot Flag Program at the November Board of Supervisors meeting. Cindy and Ed Hughes placed an Army flag in the display case to represent their son Christopher, who was deployed to Afghanistan on Nov. 4. "I think it is great you honor those who serve," Ed Hughes said. "Chris is a great kid. We've already skyped him." Both Ed and Cindy spoke highly of the flag program and said they appreciate the township's effort. Supervisor Chairman Frank Rothermel said it's a way to show appreciation for those who serve. As part of the flag presentation program, Terrence McGovern's family honored him by placing an Army Ranger flag in the township's display.
The community honored Army Ranger Terrence McGovern at a flag ceremony at the start of the township's Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday, July 26. McGovern was recently deployed to Afghanistan, so his family, friends and members of the community gathered to place a flag in his honor in the township's display. His parents, Patty and Duke McGovern, participated in the flag placement and spoke on their son's behalf. "Terrence is humble. He's quiet and very humble. He's always wanted to do this and it was a dream that he had to become an Army Ranger. And he is fulfilling his dream," Patty McGovern said while fighting back tears. Two sets of parents of Northampton patriots participated in a flag ceremony at the Board of Supervisors meeting.
As part of the township's Patriot Flag program, two families were honored for their sons' participation in the military. Army Major Eric Swenson and Marine Lance Cpl. Michael Moscola's parents participated in the flag exchange and placement at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday, June 27. Janet and Ray Swenson attended the ceremony to claim the Army flag in the township's display that represents their son, Maj. Swenson. He has twice before reclaimed that flag after serving in Iraq on two separate occasions. On Sept. 21, 2011, his flag went back in the display as he was deployed to Afghanistan. He has since returned, and is now stationed in Germany, so his parents did him the honors of exchanging the U.S. flag for his Army Flag. "…
