As the holiday shopping season goes into full swing, some people are maxing out their credit cards to pay for presents and others are setting budgets and sticking with them. The 2013 preliminary budget for Northampton Township was presented to the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
No tax increase, service cuts or lay offs will be needed to achieve the 2013 preliminary budget for Northampton Township, according to the supervisor chairman and township manager. The projected budget remains just under $28 million, as in 2012. "We were able to [create a preliminary budget] with no tax increase, no service cuts, no layoffs," Board of Supervisors Chairman Frank Rothermel said. The Northampton Township Board of Supervisors will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. for the regular monthly meeting. At the meeting, there will be a dedication of Willow Estates and the board will authorize advertising the 2013 preliminary budget. The Board of Supervisors will meet tonight with the township's boards and commissions to discuss their tentative budgets for 2013.
Northampton Township's various boards and commissions will meet with the Board of Supervisors tonight to discuss their tentative budgest for 2013. Finance Director Robert Armelin said that the groups present their tentative budgets for the next year, though its a casual conversation with no decisions being made. "Nothing formal gets decided," he said. "Actually, no decisions are made." The boards and commisisons—such as representatives for the library, Parks and Rec and more—come with a "wish list" that the supervisors will use when working on the budget.
