When four Penn State students graduated in 2003, they caught the philanthropy bug from their involvement with the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) and decided to keep the momentum going. The group decided to start their own event at home, and so the Onward Upward Basketball Challenge was born. This year's event will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Council Rock South. Twelve teams will compete in a five-on-five tournament style fashion. Tim Chiodo, Adam Gentzel, Randy Whiteside and Joe Worley were involved with THON through their fraternity, Kappa Alpha Order, and other related positions, then Adam Mills and several others joined in 2005 to help out as well. Basketball: Senior Night Triumph Comes In Overtime
It’s been a tough season for many of the Falcon seniors this year, but with a 59-55 overtime win over Council Rock South on Senior Night, the seniors went out in style in their final home game as Falcons. "You look forward to this game, but you don’t look forward to this game," senior Zach Sibel said. "You work hard for four years and then it all comes down to the last game at the Falcon’s Nest. It’s a lot of fun." You couldn’t have scripted it any better. There was overtime, half-court shots, adversity and a plethora of drama. Seniors Zach Sibel, Chris Glennie, Kris Hassel and John Evans each played a huge part in the outcome of the game. "The atmosphere was great," Sibel. "We tried to give the fans something to watch." Entering the …
