Gas 30 Cents Cheaper Than Last Spring, AAA Reports

Find the cheapest gas in Northampton.

The national average price of gasoline decreased during March for the first time in 10 years, and gas prices now average more than 30 cents per gallon less than a year ago, according to a report from AAA. This spring, the national average should remain less expensive than last year’s prices. Last year, gasoline prices peaked in April, so this year’s decrease throughout March is unusual. “It is very unusual for gas prices to decline in early spring like we have seen this year,” said Jana L. Tidwell, Public Affairs Specialist for AAA Mid-Atlantic. “An increase in refinery production and lower oil prices in early March have combined to provide rare falling prices for motorists in comparison to recent years.”    AAA predicts gasoline prices …

Gas Prices Rise Slightly

Find the cheapest gas in Northampton.

After several weeks of a downward trend, the average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Pennsylvania is $3.533, up 4.2 cents from a week ago. This rise, however, is less than half of the nearly 14-cent increase during the same period last year, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. Prices have risen largely because of higher crude oil prices. Locally, gas prices rose 3.7 cents in the Bucks and Montgomery Counties over the week, which is 2.1 cents higher than last month and 1.8 cents lower than a year ago. The national average price of a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.364, up 5.4 cents, while the average locally is $3.492. Nearby, the cheapest price for regular is $3.56 at Sunoco and Hess. If you spotted a better price…

Safety Tips for Driving in Snowy Conditions

It's best to stay off the roads during snowfall, but if you must go out, try to follow these guidelines.

Just after 3 p.m. on Friday, snow began hitting the Philadelphia region, starting what the Weather Channel has dubbed "Winter Storm Khan." Khan is projected to deposit about one to two inches of snow in the Bucks-Montgomery County region, possibly reaching three inches in some areas. The continued cold weather will also create icy conditions tomorrow, making road travel problematic.  Earlier today, AAA Mid-Atlantic sent out a press relase with some safe driving tips that motorists would be wise to follow during cold and snowy weather. They include:

When driving in snow, Clear all snow and ice from the windscreen and the roof of the car before driving off. Do not use water to de-ice windscreens. Hot water can crack the glass and the water will only freeze again on the screen or on the ground where you are standing. http://www.ingear.ie/   more ›

Gas Prices Drop 20 Cents

Find the cheapest gas in the Northampton Township area.

The average price of self-serve regular gas in Bucks and Montgomery Counties dropped nearly 20 cents since last month, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. Drivers are feeling relief at the pump across the country as gas prices continue to fall approaching the busy year-end holiday travel season. Prices are down 6.4 cents since last week and 15.1 cents higher than last year. Prices have been driven lower by a number of factors, including the switch to winter-blend fuel—which is less expensive to produce—increased gasoline inventories, cheaper crude oil prices, lower demand and economic concerns.  The national average for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $3.236; in Pennsylvania it’s $3.447 per gallon and in Bucks and Montgomery …

AAA: Gas Prices go Down, Travel Goes Up

With gas prices down 50 cents since September, 93.3 million Americans are expected to take a trip this holiday season, an increase of 1.6 percent.

AAA projects 93.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holidays, an increase of 1.6 percent over the 91.8 million people who traveled last year. This increase brings holiday travel figures to within half a million of the decade high mark seen during the 2006/2007 season. The year-end holiday travel period is defined as Saturday, Dec. 22. to Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. AAA estimates the national average price of gasoline will slowly drop through the end of the year and average between $3.20-3.40 a gallon by New Year’s Day. Gas prices dropped about 50 cents a gallon on average from September through early December, but remain at record highs for this time of year. AAA does not expect gas prices to have a …

Gas Prices Down 3.5 Cents

Find the cheapest gas in Northampton Township.

The average price of self-serve regular in Pennsylvania dropped nearly 10 cents in a month, and about 4 cents since last week, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. In the Bucks and Montgomery Counties, the average price of a gallon is $3.601, which is 3.5 cents lower than a week ago, 9.7 cents lower than a month ago and 24.7 cents higher than a year ago. While national retail gas prices have declined each day during the past week, crude oil prices have increased slightly, as market attention has focused on the impact of the looming U.S. fiscal cliff, the report states. That means though gas prices usually decline this time of year, the economic uncertainty has slowed that decline. Locally, the cheapest price (as of Dec. 5) for regular is…

AAA: Gas Prices Could Drop 50 Cents by Year’s End

Find the cheapest gas in Northampton Patch.

Gas prices dropped about 1.5 cents in Pennsylvania and 1.1 cents in Bucks and Montgomery Counties from a week ago, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. The average price of self-serve gasoline is $3.685, down 22.4 cents from a month ago and 21.7 cents higher than a year ago. After Hurricane Sandy, there continues to be a distribution problem and not a systemic issue with gasoline supplies in New York and New Jersey. There is plenty of gasoline ready to make its way to stations, but it has to get there first. Once this distribution gets fully back online, AAA expects pump prices in affected areas to follow the rest of the country lower. AAA predicts that the national average price will be $3.25 to $3.40 by Thanksgiving and $3.10 to $3.30 …

AAA: Politics Isn’t a Solution to High Gas Prices

Gas prices drop 8 cents since last week.

After Labor Day, AAA predicted that gas prices across the country would drop leading up to Election Day, and will move even lower approaching the end of the year. And that’s exactly what’s happening. For the second week, gas prices dipped by an average of 13 cents a gallon, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. In Bucks and Montgomery Counties, the average price of a gallon is $3.807 per gallon, which is 8.1 cents lower than a week ago, 11.8 cents lower than a month ago and 29.3 cents higher than a year ago. High gas prices continue to not just be a front-of-mind issue for motorists, but also a frequent topic in Washington. AAA has consistently noted, because it is a publicly traded global commodity, there is no sliver-bullet solution to …
