Viewfinder: Nature Center Play Area is Underway

Volunteers helping to create the Churchville Nature Center's Natural Play Area.

Peg Mongillo, the Churchville Nature Center's Education Director, has been working with volunteers to create the Churchville Nature Center's Natural Play Area.

The play area project was started in 2010 with the construction of a split rail fence and the clearing of the site, according to the Churchville Nature Center website.

This natural play area will feature a climbing hill with an eight-foot slide, a sunflower house, gardening area, outdoor stage, tree house, musical pipes, a large sand area, balancing beams, tree stumps for climbing, tables for outdoor sorting and eventually a water feature.

To help the volunteers, the nature center has three Eagle Scout groups scheduled to complete their eagle projects in the play area in 2011. The center hopes to open the area in the fall, according to the 2010 newsletter.

There is still a lot of work to be done, if you are interested in volunteering to help on the natural play area contact the Churchville Nature Center. Follow this link to learn more.
