Right2Know March to Stop in Churchville

The GMO March will pass through the Churchville Nature Center tonight en route to Washington, D.C.

The Right2Know March, a 330-mile walk from the Flatbush Food Co-op in Brooklyn to the White House in Washington, D.C., will be coming through Northampton tonight.

The marchers are hoping to catalyze change in the government regarding the labeling and use of genetically engineered foods, “Genetically Modified Organisms," (GMOs), people consume without their knowledge.

After a meet-up at Big Bear Natural Foods in Morrisville, marchers are likely to camp out in the auditorium starting at 7 p.m. In the morning they will move onto a Non-GMO FOAM Rally at the Weavers Way Co-op in Philadelphia.

At its start, thousands were expected to participate in part or all of the trek, including organizations like International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements (IFOAM), Non-GMO Project, Center for Food Safety, and such businesses like Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, Kamut International, Nutiva, Nature’s Path Foods, Inc., Organic Valley, Rapunzel, Stonyfield Farm and United Natural Foods Inc, according to a press release.

Helping lead the march is Joseph Wilhelm, President of Rapunzel and Indian activist, Dr. Vanadana Shiva. Both are veteran GMO activists who twice marched across Europe for controls on GMOs and in support of GMO labeling, which is required in the EU, the release said.
