Girl Scouts To Celebrate Centennial

Local troops will celebrate the Girl Scouts' 100th anniversary Sunday by earning their Bucks County patch.

It's not often that Girl Scouts can knock out the requirements to earn a patch in one afternoon, but this weekend some local troops will do just that.

Local Girl Scout troops will celebrate the Girl Scouts of America's 100th anniversary by participating in 100 Funhundred, an event designed to let them earn their Bucks County patch. It will be held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at and will last 100 minutes.

The girls will cycle through a variety of activities. Each level of scout has a different requirement of how many they must complete. The only other obligation is that they bring something to donate to a local service organization. They can either bring a baby item for their Baby Bundles program, which benefits local needy mothers and infants, or a non-perishable food item to be donated to a local food pantry, said organizer Diana Bilyk.

Activities include knot tying, card making and other traditional stations. There will also be cake and drinks to wish the Girl Scouts "happy birthday," she said.

Normally, scouts do an acitivity here and there at meetings and over time to complete a patch. But this celebratory event is designed so the girls can earn the patch in a day, Bilyk said. Scouts who complete the event will be eligible to order the patch when it's finished, she added.

Girls are encouraged to wear their uniforms and are allowed to bring friends who might be interested in joining scouts.
