Famous Footwear to Donate Socks for Soldiers

Socks will be donated to McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.

The community is being asked to donate old shoes that will be recycled to raise money for the Socks for Soldiers program.

At June's Northampton Township Board of Supervisors meeting, resident Lori Loughlin explained that area Famous Footwear's are teaming up with ShoeBox Recycling in order to raise money to purchase socks that will then be donated to soldiers.

Loughlin said that the nearest participating location to Northampton Township is Warminster's , located at 940 W Street Rd. This location has a box in the front of the store where people can drop off their used shoes.

Famous Footwear then gives the shoes to ShoeBox Recycling, who then clean up and refurbish the shoes and send them to the less fortunate. ShoeBox will in turn give Famous Footwear 50 cents per pound of the donated shoes. The shoe store will then use the money to purchase socks for soldiers and then donate the socks to the USO.

"They will not only be purchasing regular socks," Loughlin said, but also "bootie socks for soldiers to be able to work out."
