The Bling Ring: Emma Watson's Innocence Destroyed

The Bling Ring: Emma Watson’s Innocence Destroyed…Sorry Harry Potter!

The Hollywood Burglar Bunch was a group of rich teens operating out of Calababas, California. They stole from the rich and gave to the rich…themselves. The new movie The Bling Ring written and directed by Sophia Coppola chronicles their year-long stealing spree.

This is a dark and sometimes humorous movie. The bling robbers and stars are lead by Emma Watson, Katie Chang, and Israel Broussard. They are the manipulating, manipulated, and plotting leaders of a soon to be out of control group of celebrity stalkers. This group, however, stalks celebrity possessions, not the celebrity. In real life, they were the leaders in their school and the least likely to recede.

This daring and brazen group stole over three million dollars in “bling stuff” from Paris Hilton and a “who’s who” list of Hollywood stars. Are there any Lindsay Lohan fans still out there!? The blingers had over 50 celebrity’s homes in their “next to visit” database when an anonymous tip lead to their arrest. By the way, it is hard to call the trips to Hilton’s home robberies or  break-ins because the ring said Paris Hilton’s key was conveniently placed under the front doormat and her door was not locked.

The Bling Ring movie is being touted in all the major magazines and newspaper. USA Today opens with a half page shot as the lead to their entertainment section. However, out of the twenty local Philadelphia theaters, only one is showing the movie…and that theater, The Ritz II on Second and Walnut Streets in Philadelphia is one of the smallest in the region. Their cookie selections make up for their size!

Maybe the movie will get lucky and build momentum like Silver Linings Playbook did. It will need more than one review and one theater to do so! Maybe you can help???
