Name: Olivia Oriente
Olivia has competed in the Junior Olympics for the past three years in the 3k event. She competed last weekend in the National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Myrtle Beach, SC. This year she placed 130 out of 240 athletes with a time of 13 minutes and 19 seconds.
Olivia has been running for St. Bede's for three years and has gone to Coaches Cross Country Nationals for the past two. This was the first year that she competed at Junior Olympics, said her mother, Colleen Oriente.
She is in fifth grade at Hillcrest Elelmentary. Her teacher is very supportive of her and threw a pep rally for her the day before she left for South Carolina, Oriente said.
"I liked meeting new people, seeing them at other races and becoming good friends," Olivia said about the Junior Olympics. "I like to run because it makes me feel fast and happy. My motto is effort equals success."
