Reports: Bucks County Native Will Be PSU’s New Football Coach

Multiple media outlets are reporting that Vanderbilt’s James Franklin has accepted the Nittany Lions’ offer.

Penn State has a new football coach, according to multiple media reports.

James Franklin, head coach at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, has agreed to be Penn State’s new head coach, CBS Sports is reporting. An official announcement was expected late Thursday.

Franklin, 41, will take over for Bill O’Brien, who is leaving the Nittany Lions after two seasons to be head coach of the Houston Texans.

Franklin’s Pennsylvania roots run deep: He grew up in Langhorne, and is a Neshaminy High School graduate, The Philadelphia Inquirer said. He also graduated from East Stroudsburg University.

The Washington Redskins also had expressed interest in hiring Franklin, the Inquirer said. The Redskins on Thursday announced that they had hired Jay Gruden, ESPN is reporting.

Franklin has been at Vanderbilt for three seasons.
