Sticker Shock Program Reminds Parents to Stay Lawful

A local group is working to prevent underage drinking in prom and graduation season.

For adults thinking of buying alcohol for minors for prom tonight or graduation in a few weeks, the Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth wants you to think twice.

Under adult and police supervision, middle and high school students will be placing stickers on cases of beer in that remind adults it is unlawful to buy and serve alcohol to people under the age of 21, said Barbara Gross, the coalition's co-coordinator of youth activities and outreach.

"It empowers our youth," Gross said. "It's an environmental strategy ... to inform the community."

Project Sticker Shock has national roots, and this is the third year that Council Rock has participated, she said. 

Some of the purposes it serves are to remind the community, allow youth to make a difference and let them do peer-to-peer messaging, she said.
