St. Katharine Drexel Students to Visit Patron Saint's Shrine

Students of the new St. Katharine Drexel Regional School will visit the shrine of the school's saint on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Students and teachers of the new St. Katharine Drexel Regional School in Holland will visit the shrine of the school's patron saint today, Sept. 26.

The new regional school was formed by combining the student bodies of the former St. Bede the Venerable and Assumption B.V.M. schools in Bucks County. The school was named for a native Philadelphian and saint, Katharine Drexel, who performed many of her good works in the Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs, according to a press release from the school.

She is now entombed at the St. Katharine Drexel Shrine in Bensalem.

The entire student body will embark on a pilgrimage to the shrine, and participate in a special Mass, where St. Katharine will be asked to bestow her heavenly blessing on the new school, according to a press release.

Celebrating the Mass will be the Most Rev. Michael J. Fitzgerald, who oversees Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Concelebrating will be Rev. Monsignor John C. Marine, the pastor of St. Bede the Venerable Parish in Holland, and Rev. William McGeown, pastor of Assumption B.V.M. parish in Feasterville.

The Mass is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.

The St. Katharine Drexel Shrine is located on the grounds of the Motherhouse for the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, 1663 Bristol Pike in Bensalem.
