'So You Think You Can Dance' Champ is Coming to Town

Singer and actor Skylar Astin and "So You Think You Can Dance" champion Chehon Wespi-Tschoop will be in town for the Broadway Break Thru Summer Intensive, which will be held July 29 to August 3 at Council Rock High School South.

Local residents will have the chance to perfect their performing arts skills during a weeklong workshop taught by two national stars.

Singer and actor Skylar Astin and “So You Think You Can Dance” champion Chehon Wespi-Tschoop will be in town for the Broadway Break Thru Summer Intensive, which will be held July 29 to August 3 at Council Rock High School South.

During the workshop, students will take more 20 classes on subjects that range from basic acting, to how to build a resume and to how to take a head shot.

Workshop attendees will create their own films from start to finish. The films will premiere during the workshop’s student-run film festival, along with live performances.

“These are the biggest stars we’ve ever been able to bring,” said event founder and executive director David Petro. “We always try to provide national and local opportunities for all of our students and bringing in these stars in addition to our award-winning local teachers will provide all of our students the necessary tools to succeed in any profession.”

Astin made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award winning musical, Spring Awakening.  In 2008, he made his feature film debut in the musical farce Hamlet 2.

He also had guest appearances on television shows such as "House," "Love Bites" and HBO’s "Girls" and starred in the 2012 movie, “Pitch Perfect alongside Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson. He was also featured on the movie’s soundtrack. He currently stars in the TBS new comedy series, “Ground Floor.” 

Wespi-Tschopp won the title of America’s Favorite Dancer in 2012 when he was named the Season 9 champion of “So You Think You Can Dance.”   

The workshop will be conducted at Council Rock South High School, 2002 Rock Way, Holland. The cost is $595 for the week. Space is limited to 100 students. Visit this link to register.
