Six Council Rock Schools Receive Governor's Award for Academic Excellence

Six Council Rock School District schools have received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Academics.

Lt. Governor Jim Cawley on Thursday presented the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Academics to Council Rock High School North, Council Rock High School South, Maureen M. Welch Elementary School, Newtown Middle School, Wrightstown Elementary School and Sol Feinstone Elementary School.

“These schools demonstrate the exceptional commitment and dedication of parents, taxpayers, teachers, administrators and most importantly students in preparing our children for a successful and bright future,” Cawley said.  “The Council Rock community is to be applauded for its investment in students and providing them with the resources to grow academically.”

Based on the 2012-13 School Performance Profile, Council Rock High School North attained a score of 95 percent, the highest score in the district, according to information provided by the Cawley’s office.

Council Rock High School South followed with a 93.5 percent, Maureen M. Welch Elementary School with a 93.4 percent, Newtown Middle School with a 90.6 percent, and Wrightstown Elementary School and Sol Feinstone Elementary School both with a 90.3 percent.

The Governor, Lt. Governor and Corbett administration officials are visiting high-performing schools across Pennsylvania to present them with the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Academics. Statewide, 428 schools attained a score of 90 or higher.

“On behalf of Governor Corbett, I congratulate Council Rock School District for its excellent work in educating students and I encourage schools across the state to follow its lead,” Cawley said.
