Panic Buttons to be Installed at All Council Rock Schools

Council Rock School District will spend $20,575 to install a district-wide panic button system as part of a plan to enhance school security.

Council Rock is moving forward on a plan to install silent panic buttons at all district schools.

On Thursday, the Council Rock School Board approved spending $20,575 on the panic buttons.

The district will hire Fire and Security Technologies (FAST) to install the equipment in all schools, the Chancellor Center, the district's facility at Law School Admissions, the SAIL House and the maintenance facility at Twining Ford Road, Superintendent Mark Klein said.

The panic buttons are part of a series of security enhancements being recommended by the administration.

Other recommendations include improved visitor controls, facility improvements, intervention and increased staffing.

The administration based their recommendations on suggestions from the community through three public forums on school security that were held this winter in response to the school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
