Neshaminy Schools Reopen Monday After Hurricane Sandy

Neshaminy School District students and teachers will return to their classrooms Monday.

Neshaminy School District schools will reopen Monday, Nov. 5 for students and teachers following Hurricane Sandy.

District officials announced last weekend that the schools would be closed Monday and Tuesday in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy causing flooding, damage and power outages.

Schools remained closed the rest of the week due to ongoing power outages throughout the district.

Lower Southampton Fire Marshal and Neshaminy School Board Member Bill Oettinger told Patch that only 50 percent of the district's schools had electricity Thursday and only 40 percent were guaranteed to have power last Friday. While the schools are equipped with backup generators, Oettinger said it wasn't enough to bring open the schools for students.

Hurricane Sandy also caused the school district's Internet service provider to go down, affecting all Neshaminy email correspondence and VPN connections.
