Half a Million Dollars Given to BCCC by Anonymous Donor

An anonymous donor has given Bucks County Community College $500,000, the largest gift ever received by the college.

Bucks County Community College has received the largest gift in its 49-year history—$500,000 given from an anonymous 1972 alumnus.

The benefactor, a Doylestown native, was the first person in his family to attend college, according to BCCC officials. After successfully completing his first semester at BCCC, he was drafted into the Army where he spent the next three years, including one tour in Vietnam.

Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, the anonymous donor was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service. He returned to Bucks County in 1969, where he finished his degree at the community college before transferring to a four-year institution, according to a BCCC press release.

“Even though this person wished to remain anonymous, the thoughtfulness will remain as a legacy of our donor,” said Philip Wursta, president of the BCCC Foundation Board of Directors.

Wursta said the donation will be used to "enhance the student experience at Bucks through programs, scholarships and facility improvements."

BCCC President Stephanie Shanblatt said the college community is "most appreciative" of the donation. “This leadership gift will further enhance our community of excellence and benefit students in providing more financial resources to support their educational goals.”

The BCCC Foundation was established in 1982 as a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) educational trust to provide expanded resources for the college’s growth and development.

The Foundation’s $5.5 million endowment supports instructional resources, campus facilities, scholarships and awards, cultural activities and special college projects. For more information, visit www.bucks.edu/foundation.
