District Committee Recommends Closing Richboro Middle School

Council Rock's Capital Planning Committee said Richboro Middle School should be closed and improvements should be made to Holland Middle School at a cost of $36 million.

Council Rock’s Capital Planning Committee is recommending that Richboro Middle School be closed and Holland Middle School be renovated and expanded. The committee is also recommending that Wrightstown Elementary School be closed.

The recommendations were made during a presentation in front of the school board Wednesday.

The committee, which was tasked with coming up with a capital plan by assessing the district’s buildings and overall student enrollment, said their recommendations are fiscally responsible.

The committee said Richboro Middle School should be closed and improvements should be made to Holland Middle School at a cost of $36 million. Additionally, the committee says the district should build a new Newtown Middle School for $55 million, which they say makes more sense than the $47 million renovation project required to meet the district’s needs.

Board president Wendi Thomas thanked the committee for their work over the past year. “We plan to try to digest some of this information. It is this board’s intent to review the information and make some decisions,” she said.
