Council Rock Officials: Flooding May Impact Friday Schedule

The district will notify parents of delays and closings through its website, via email, telephone and television.

Excessive rain and flooding has been problematic for Council Rock’s schedule thus far this school year. The first day of school was postponed last week and three elementary schools didn’t start until two days after schedule due to power loss from Hurricane Irene.

Then today, rain and flooding caused the district to close all schools. And now officials are saying there may be more problems Friday.

“There is significant flooding around the (Neshaminy) creek and all bridges connecting Northampton with Wrightstown and Newtown are closed,” Council Rock School District Superintendent Mark Klein said in an email to parents Thursday afternoon.  “This email is early warning that this flooding may impact our school day tomorrow.”

Heavy rain that fell overnight Thursday caused roads to flood and prompted officials to issue a two-hour delay, which later was extended to an all-day closure. Several roads in the district, including Newtown-Richboro Road and Buck Road, are closed due to flooding.

"These closures made it impossible for Council Rock to move buses from terminals in Wrightstown and Newtown," Klein said Thursday morning.
