Health & Fitness

And so it begins...

I grew up in the Detroit area in the 60s and 70s.  Since moving to the Philly area a few years ago I realize that many of you share similar habits, tastes and lifestyles as those I have been around all of my life.  So, you can probably relate to this blog.  When I grew up our dinner plates varied little.  Sure, the recipes changed but they always consisted of at least one of the four main food groups of the era:  beef, chicken, turkey and more beef.  You remember that don't you?  After all the deep voiced man always assured us that "it's what's for dinner".  And then, of course, eating vegetables was merely done to qualify ourselves for dessert, right?  Perhaps it's time for a change.  Before we go much further I want to categorically state that I will NOT become a beef-basher.  This blog is about choice. My personal contributions to all of this will be from the perspective of a 50 year old man who has decided to become a vegetarian simply to explore the health benefits of doing so.  I am choosing to become a vegetarian at the age of 50 and I want to talk about it with you.  (By the way, that should explain the rather cryptic title of this blog.  A quinquagenerian is someone in their 50s...which also means I have ten more years before I have to think of a new title.) Now, despite my personal perspective and the title, this blog is open to whomever wants to contribute.  We can all learn from someone else regardless of age, sex, or cultural background.  So, with this foundation laid, let's spend some time exploring a new frontier in healthy living.  Join us and let me know what you think.
