Supervisors to Apply for Community Development Grant

If chosen, the Northampton Township Senior Center would be possibly partly run by alternate energy sources.

The Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday night to approve a resolution that allows them to apply for a 2012 Bucks County Community Development Block Grant for the .

If selected, the center might receive funding to help install alternative energy systems to reduce operating costs.

The program, maintained by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and generally seeks to benefit low- and moderate-income persons, but the supervisors said the senior center would be applicable as well.

The application is due by the end of September, and applications will be looked over the Bucks County Commissioners in early Spring.

With this proposal, the township hopes to utilize wind or solar energy, or a combination of both, to help cut down on the annual costs of running the Senior Center, which is about $25,000.
