State Grant Sought for Recreation Complex Improvements

Northampton Township will apply for a $250,000 grant through the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to improve its recreation complex.

Northampton Township is looking to improve its recreation complex and is seeking aid from the state to carry out the repairs.

The Board of Supervisors on Wednesday approved a resolution authorizing the township administration to apply for a $250,000 grant through the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The grant, which must be matched equally by the township, will be used to make parking and traffic flow improvements at the complex plus other enhancements. Township officials say improvements include the addition of more than 100 parking spaces, a reconfiguration of access points, ensuring the facilities are up to date on ADA compliance, new field lights and more.

Down the line, township officials say they’d like to do even more improvements at the recreation complex, which has not been updated since it was build in 1977. It is located on Newtown Richboro Road.

The work will be divided into as many as three phases, board chairwoman Kimberly Rose said. The first phase will cost approximately $776,000.
