Saturday: Get Rid of Hazardous Household Waste, Electronics at Central Bucks H.S. South

Hazardous household waste collection and electronics recycling set for Saturday at Central Bucks High School South.

Bucks County residents' widespread participation in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection Program continues to demonstrate a commitment to environmental protection and stewardship. 

So far this year, residents have visited Bristol and Bedminster townships to participate in the program, disposing of thousands of pounds of potentially harmful material.

The program will make the third of six 2013 stops on Saturday, July 27, rain or shine, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Central Bucks High School South, located at 1100 Folly Rd., Warrington Township.

Since the program began in 1998, more than 50,000 Bucks County residents have prevent almost 5 million pounds of hazardous waste from being deposited into landfills. This number includes 1.6 million pounds of obsolete or unwanted electronics.

Participants may bring up to 25 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous materials. This program is NOT open to businesses.

This one-day collection will also allow residents to responsibly dispose of unwanted, outdated computers as well as televisions and small appliances at no cost. Information about eligible electronic items is available by clicking on "How do I...Recycle in Bucks?" on the home page of the official county website, www.BucksCounty.org.

Acceptable items include pesticides (Chlordane, Malathion, rodent poison, etc.), flammables (oil-based paint, paint thinner spot removers, gasoline, kerosene, heating oil), caustics (ammonia-based cleaners, oven cleaner, drain cleaner), toxics (photographic chemicals, pool chemicals, weed killer, antifreeze, mercury), button-type household batteries, lead-acid batteries (car, marine, motorcycle and truck) and propane tanks of 20 pounds or less. Unacceptable items include latex paint, appliances, biological waste, tires, explosives and asbestos.
