Sandy Hook Parent from Bucks County Will Testify in Harrisburg

A Council Rock graduate who lost her son in the Newtown, Conn. school shooting will speak Wednesday in Harrisburg in support of background checks for gun purchases.

Francine Lobis Wheeler, whose son, Benjamin, 6, died in the attack at Sandy Hood Elementary School in December, will speak during a news conference hosted by state Rep. Steve Santarsiero in the Capitol rotunda.

The event will follow a state House Judiciary Committee public hearing on background checks for gun purchases, during which Lobis Wheeler will testify on behalf of Sandy Hook Promise. 

Representatives from the state police, NRA, Firearms Dealers, CeasefirePA, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Association of Firearms Dealers, National Shooting Sports Foundation and Firearms Owners Against Crime are also scheduled to testify.

Sandy Hook Promise is a non-profit organization founded by victims' families and community members in response to the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn. that left 26 dead.

Lobis Wheeler is a member of Council Rock’s class of 1985.
