Northampton Democrats Announce Endorsements

The Northampton Democratic Committee has announced its endorsements for the upcoming local election.

The Northampton Democratic Committee has announced the following endorsements for local elections:

Jim Cunningham for Township Supervisor:  Cunningham has been endorsed for reelection. He is a long-time resident of Holland and has two sons, Liam and Kevin. He has a Bachelor's degree from Temple University and a Master's from Holy Family University. For the past 12 years, he has worked at the Bucks County Department of Corrections in the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Section. He is also a hostage negotiator and works for the Central Bucks Special Response Team.

"Mr. Cunningham possesses a keen awareness of both the long-term and short-term needs of our community for fiscally balanced and sustainable development. He has pushed tirelessly to ensure public spaces are safe, inviting, accessible to all and well maintained without burdening taxpayers," a press release from the local Democrats said.

Frank Rothermel for Township Supervisor: Rothermel has been endorsed for reelection. He earned a Bachelor's from Juniata College and his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is currently a partner at Bernhardt, Rothermel & Siegel in Philadelphia.

Supervisor Rothermel served as the chairman of the Northampton Township Board of Supervisors in 2012 and is currently the Board's Treasurer. According to the local Democratic Committee, Rothermel has a long-standing commitment to fiscal transparency. "Our township benefits from his experience as a former United States Department of Justice Fraud Prosecutor during the Reagan and .H.W. Bush administrations," the release said.

"Rothermel is an outstanding candidate whose character, qualifications and dedication are all beyond reproach," the press release said.

Patricia Mayer for Northampton Township Board of Auditors: Mayer has lived in Churchville with her husband and two sons for 12 years. "She offers a rare combination of abilities, foresight and sense of community for our town," the release said.  Ms. Mayer is a shareholder in the firm of Belknap & Mayer, PC, a consumer bankruptcy practice located in Yardley.

Mayer received her Bachelor's degree from DeSales University and her J.D. from Temple University School of Law.  She is admitted to the Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the District Court of New Jersey and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Third Circuit Court of Appeal, the United States Tax Court and the United States Supreme Court.

Mayer is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and a member of the Steering Committee for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Conference where she also currently serves on the Rules Committee. She also volunteers her time with the Alzheimer's Association's Delaware Valley Chapter, Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and the Temple Women’s Law Caucus.

Paul Lang for Tax Collector: U.S. Army veteran Mr. Paul Kelly Lang Jr. has been endorsed for the position of Tax Collector. Lang earned a Bachelor's degree from Wheeling Jesuit University. He was formerly a Bucks County Housing Authority Commissioner. Lang is a former chairperson on the Congressional Military Academy Board, a co-president of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Parents Association as well as a Northampton Little League coach, CYO basketball coach.

During his tenure as Vice President of the Northampton and Southampton Jaycees, Lang, along with several other Jaycee members, founded the Northampton Days festival. Mr Lang is a member of Gilda's Club, the Knights of Columbus, The Ancient Order of Hibernians and AARP.

"As Tax Collector, Mr. Lang will strive to reduce the operating costs of the Tax Collector office as much as possible and will make sure it is run in an efficient and cost effective manner," the release said.
