"Field of Dreams" One Step Closer to Reality

Soon local special needs children will be able to do more than only "run the bases in their dreams."

If you build it, they will come.

This famous "Field of Dreams" line set the stage Thursday night for the groundbreaking of the new Miracle League sports complex at the Northampton Municipal Park.

Townspeople gathered at 5 p.m. to hear officals and organizers such as Supervisors Chairman George Komelasky, Rep. Scott Petri (R-Bucks) and Board President Joe Hand speak about the time and effort that it took to reach that moment.

"This field really represents the ultimate gift and it's the gift of community," Petri said. "This would not have happened without all of you supporting the project from day one."

When Hand spoke, he was visibly emotional near the end of his speech when he said that the fields would fulfill "a dream for the countless children who before today could only run the bases in their dreams."

The Marine Corps League Patriot Detachment led the way from the pavilion to the field where the groundbreaking was to take place.

Dirt and dust clouded the air around 11 shovels as township officials, board members and children dug into the ground that will soon become the new Miracle League sports complex.

The will be utilized for children with physical and/or cognitive disabilitys who want to play softball, baseball, football, soccer and many other sports.

Officials said they hope to begin construction officially in August and have the complex completed by the beginning of next season in March or April.
