Community Honors Recently Deployed Army Ranger Terrence McGovern

As part of the flag presentation program, Terrence McGovern's family honored him by placing an Army Ranger flag in the township's display.

The community honored Army Ranger Terrence McGovern at a flag ceremony at the start of the township's Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday, July 26.

McGovern was recently deployed to Afghanistan, so his family, friends and members of the community gathered to place a flag in his honor in the township's display. His parents, Patty and Duke McGovern, participated in the flag placement and spoke on their son's behalf.

"Terrence is humble. He's quiet and very humble. He's always wanted to do this and it was a dream that he had to become an Army Ranger. And he is fulfilling his dream," Patty McGovern said while fighting back tears.

"And i know that he is really proud that everyone is here tonight. I'm just really proud of him. Thank you so much for this ceremony," she said.

The flag representing McGovern will stay in the display until he arrives back home to claim it and replace it with an American flag.

"We hope to see him and the rest of the people attached to the flags up there home safe and sound," McGovern's father Duke said.

Back in 2003, the Board of Supervisors introduced the Northampton Patriots flag program to honor residents serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The program has since expanded to include Afghanistan and other hostile areas.
