Candidates Utilize Get out the Vote Tactics in Off-Year Election

"I'm knocking on doors. I'm standing out in front of ," Rose said. "I just try to talk to people about the issues and remind them to vote."

Deon said the effort is the same as other off years.

"You have to remind [the voters]," he said, adding, "What do you do?"

One of his tactics is to try to walk to between 80 and 100 houses each night. He said he's knocked on 4,000 doors since May.

"I send letters. I had my mother do a letter for me, family and friends doing letters for me," he said. "You really just try to beat the bushes. It is the biggest concern you have in an off year."

Rose said she thinks it's important for people to attach a face to the name of who's running.

"I think it means more for people when they meet the person who's running and they can see for themselves that person and get a feel for them," she said. "I think that makes them want to vote."

Deon said in the last few weeks leading up to Election Day, his motto is: "Don't forget. Vote. Vote. Vote."
