UPDATE: Crash Fire "Likely Caused" by Leaked Fluids

The Fire Marshal's office gave a closer look into the cause Monday morning's fiery crash.

The fiery crash that caused Holland resident Thomas Warzocha's car to burst into flames early Monday morning left its remains across the road and surrounding greenery still by Wednesday morning.

First 21-year-old Holland reisdent Thomas Warzocha's car hits a tree on a bend in the 1600 block of Chinquapin Road, next the car rolls over and burst into flames.

Warzocha was driving on Chinquapin Road when his car hit a tree, rolled and caught fire. Wednesday the smell of charred plastic still hung over the scene of the crash, which was littered with broken glass, melted pieces of the car and burnt underbrush.

"Vehicle fires can be caused by a few things; this one was most likely caused when the car flipped over and the fluids began to leak out. The fluids could have hit the hot engine, exposed wires, or many things," Northampton Fire Inspector Rob Holmes said.

Holmes, who did not investigate the accident, said that when cars burn, often the plastic melts and sticks to the roadway, which was the case in Monday's crash.

Crews from the Northampton Fire Volunteer Fire Company responded to the fire and put the car and some surrounding brush out, Holmes said.

Police Chief Barry Pilla said the fire was so intense, it burned all the paint off the two-door car.

For destruction of that magnitude, Holmes said the fire was most likely hotter than 800 degrees.

Warzocha told officers that he pulled himself from the car after the crash and to safety, Pilla said Tuesday.

The report of the crash was called into 9-1-1 around 3 a.m. Monday, Pilla reported.

Warzocha was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Middletown where he was treated for a possible fractured femur bone and also had blood taken, Pilla said.

Warzocha's blood has been sent to the Bucks County Crime Lab to be tested and charges are pending the outcome of the samples, he said.

The crash is still under investigation and anyone with information is urged to call Northampton Township Police Department at (215) 322-6111.
