Northampton and Newtown police were involved in an early morning incident Thursday that began after a resident noticed someone was stealing batteries from his barn, police said.
Shortly before 4 a.m., Northampton Township police received a report that a Sackettsford Road resident was chasing a vehicle occupied by two people who had stolen batteries from his barn.
The fleeing vehicle crashed in the area of Sackettsford and Rushland roads, where police said officers from Northampton and Newtown were able to catch one of the alleged thieves, a Warminster resident.
Charges relating to Theft, Receiving Stolen Property and Loitering and Prowling at Night will be filed via summons, police said. The investigation is continuing as officers attempt to identify the second alleged thief.
Northampton Township Police say they are investigating a separate incident that also involves stolen batteries.
A representative of Metro PCS on Feb. 6 told police that sometime between Nov. 8, 2012 and Jan. 12, 2013 someone stole four batteries from the a cell tower site at Hatboro and West Bristol roads, police said. Each battery was valued at $500, police said.
A similiar theft was reported this month to Newtown Township police.
