Police Report to 2 DUI-Related Crashes

Police responded to two DUI-related crashes, which were detailed in a recent police blotter.

Two DUI-related crashes—one on East Holland Road by Amsterdam Drive and the other near Churchville Inn—were reported by Northampton Township Police in recent blotters.

Around 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, an officer responded to a report of a struck pedestrian on East Holland Road by Amsterdam Drive.

On arrival, a 17-year-old pedestrian who said he was not injured told police that while walking on East Holland Road at the curve, he saw a vehicle approaching. The vehicle then appeared to swerve and approach the grass where he was walking. The pedestrian said he tried to move out of the way but his leg was struck, according to the blotter.

The driver was identified as Bhushan Desai, 25, of Philadelphia, according to reports. Desai showed several signs of impairment and was unable to successfully complete a series of field dexterity tests, police said. Desai was taken into custody on suspicion of having been driving while under the influence. He was transported to the Saint Mary Medical Center where samples of his blood were obtained for analysis.

The pedestrian was evaluated by ambulance personnel, but refused transportation to the hospital with his parents' permission.

After Desai's visit to the hospital, he was brought to the Northampton Township Police Department Headquarters and processed before being released. Charges relation to DUI and the crash are pending the conclusion of the crash investigation and the lab report.

The following day, Friday, June 29 at 2:30 a.m., an officer saw a vehicle with extensive front-end damage and its airbags deployed in the parking lot of the Churchville Inn (at East Bristol Road and Churchville Lane). While checking the vehicle, two subjects arrived—one of whom was found to be the driver of the damaged vehicle—according to reports.

The officer's observations of the driver, Andrew Couturier, 22, of Richboro, led police to believe he had been drinking. Couturier was taken into custody and transported to the Saint Mary Medical Center where samples of his blood were obtained for analysis.

He was then brought to the Headquarters and processed before being released to a family member. Charges relating to DUI are pending the lab report.
