DUI on 2nd Street Pike by Willowbrook Drive

While on patrol at 3:37 p.m. an officer cam upon a vehicle in a ditch on 2nd Street Pike by Willowbrook Drive. The vehicle's operator stated he was attempting to make a U-turn when he drove into the ditch. The operator’s appearance, actions and inability to successfully complete a series of field dexterity tests led to his being taken in to custody on suspicion of having been driving while under the influence. The operator, Michael Garofalo, 46, of Feasterville, was transported to the Saint Mary Medical Center where samples of his blood were drawn for analysis. He was then taken to the Warminster Township Police Department for processing before being transported home.  Charges relating to DUI are pending the lab report.

Saturday, December 3: DUI-Related Traffic Crash at 2nd Street Pike in the Parking Lot of the Schoolhouse Shopping Center

While patrolling the shopping centers in the Richboro Commercial District at 2:25 a.m., an officer heard, then saw, a vehicle doing a “burn out” in the lot of the Schoolhouse Shopping Center. It then apparently struck an unknown object.  The vehicle was then seen exiting the parking lot onto southbound 2nd Street Pike, then making a right turn onto Almshouse Road while disregarding a steady red traffic signal. When the officer activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed, driving erratically entering into a neighborhood where the driver lost control causing the vehicle to strike a large rock at the end of a driveway knocking the rock into the roadway.  The vehicle continued to flee until it struck a curb on Friesland Drive where the operator jumped from it and ran towards a retention basin and the lawns of surrounding homes. The operator was apprehended on the lawn of a home on Whitney Lane. He was identified as Benjamin Rodriguez, 21, of Bensalem, and he was transported to the Saint Mary Medical Center where he refused to allow samples of his blood to be drawn. He was then taken to the Warminster Township Police Department for processing before being brought to NTPD headquarters where he was then released to a friend. Charges relating to DUI, Fleeing Police and various traffic offenses will be filed. NOTE: Due to his having refused to submit to the sampling of his blood statute mandates the DUI charges be filed as if the driver were at the highest level of intoxication. It also requires the driver’s operating privileges be suspended for a minimum of one year.
