NTPD to Participate in Second Wave of DUI Prevention Program

Township police have joined an initiative to help reduce the number of DUIs statewide.

Northampton police have decided to participate in the second wave of the 2011 PA Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Program, which began July 11 and will run through Aug. 28. 

The Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project (PAADEEP) is a statewide initiative that utilizes crash data to identify aggressive driving locations. High visibility target enforcement, coordinated earned media, public awareness and training are conducted on these roadways to reduce the number of needless aggressive driving injuries and deaths, a police statement said.

The partnership is comprised of municipal police departments, the Pennsylvania State PolicePennDOT, the US Department of Transportation and community groups and organizations. The Northampton Township Police Department will adhere to the "Zero Tolerance" seat belt enforcement policy while participating in aggressive driving enforcement activities, the statement said.

for their efforts during the first wave of the program on June 28. Gordon Beck, of PennDOT’s partner organization Buckle Up PA, awarded the officers, who were each nominated by their department chiefs, during a brief ceremony at the Bucks County Emergency Services Training Center.
