NJ Brush Fire Causes Smoky Smell in Bucks

Why does it smell like smoke?

On Sunday evening, residents from throughout Central New Jersey and Bucks County were likely wondering the cause of a smokey smell that blanketed the area.

According to reports, a fire at one of the ranges at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst caused a smoky smell from Bordentown to Central Bucks County.

In an article posted this morning, The Trentonian reported a smoky smell was detectable throughout Central New Jersey and Bucks County. A light brown haze hovered above the Delaware River along interstate 295 and surrounding towns, according to the Trentonian.

According to the Trentonian, the fire began around noon and burned about 1200 acres. 

The Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst took to Facebook to spread the word. In a posting Sunday night, its page said the following: "You may have noticed the smoke in the area. A fire is currently burning in one of our ranges; however, it is contained and does not currently pose any risk to the base or surrounding community. We will provide you updates as we receive them."
