Man Found Asleep Behind the Wheel; DUI Charges Pending

A driver asleep in his running vehicle may be charged with a DUI after results from lab reports are received, according to a recent police blotter.

A Holland man who was asleep in his running vehicle may be charged with a DUI after results from lab reports are received, Northampton Township Police said.

Just after 9 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18 an officer on patrol discovered an occupied vehicle running with its operator asleep behind the wheel in the 100 block of Mulberry Drive by South Timber Road, according to a recent police blotter.

The officer woke the driver, who was a 52-year-old man from Holland, reports said. Observations of the driver led an officer to ask him to perform a series of field dexterity tests. He was unable to successfully complete the tests.

The man was then taken into custody on suspicion of having been operating his vehicle while under the influence. He was taken to Saint Mary Medical Center where samples of his blood were taken for analysis.

He was then taken to Northampton Township Police Department Headquarters and processed before being released. Charges relating to DUI are pending the lab report results.
