Holland Girl Killed After Struck by Car

A 16-year-old girl was walking with her friend down Buck Road when she was struck by a car.

Two teenagers were walking on the northbound shoulder of Buck Road between West Village Road and Spring Avenue last night when Council Rock South student Carleigh Jones, 16, from Holland, was hit by a vehicle heading north at about 10:43 p.m, according to police. Jones was walking arm-in-arm with her friend, another 16-year-old.

The driver was a 19-year-old from Holland and the car had a 20-year-old passenger, both from Holland. Police have not yet released their names.

Upon impact, the driver pulled over immediately and the passenger called 9-1-1. Both waited for medical and police officials to arrive.

Officers were on the scene within three minutes of the call and rescue teams followed shortly after. Jones was transported to St. Mary Medical Center by a Newtown ambulance where she later passed away from her injuries. Her friend was trasported to the St. Mary's by the Tri-Hampton Rescue squad after suffering a post-traumatic anxiety attack, the release said.

Buck Road was closed for about two and a half hours after the accident for investigation. The stretch of road where the girls were walking is not lit and the lane where they were walking is about four feet wide.
