Computer Virus Circulating Among Yahoo, Other Email Subscribers

Emails from "no-reply@policeagency.com" may be harmful.

Email users who receive an email from "no-reply@policeagency.com" should be wary not to open it because it could be a virus.

Recently the Northampton Township Police Department was notified that a Northampton resident found an email from an unknown person claiming to be from New York State Police. The email had information about an unpaid traffic ticket with instructions on how to pay it, according to a police statement.

The New York State Police Department's Cyber Crimes Division is currently investigating the matter, which a press release said is "circulating heavily nationwide." It is primarily affecting Yahoo! Mail subscribers.

The hoax email contains an attached zip file, which is believed to contain an unknown virus and is currently being analyzed by the New York State Police Computer Forensics Lab, the release said.

This email is not from the NY State Police or the Department of Motor Vehicles. If you receive this email, do not open or forward it to anyone, including the police department.
