Charges Filed in Fatal Accident

Monroe Leonard Tanner IV, 18, has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the Dec. 8 accident that killed Cameron Smithwick.

An Ivyland teenager has been charged in a fatal accident that left one dead last December. 

Monroe Leonard Tanner IV, 18, has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the Dec. 8 accident that killed Cameron Smithwick, 19, of Ivyland. Smithwick, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the one-care accident on Old Jacksonville Road, attended Council Rock North before moving to Texas.

According to a report published on phillyburbs.com, Tanner's blood tested positive for ingredients found in marijuana. The article also cited sources saying Tanner was speeding at the time of the accident.

In addition to the homicide by vehicle charge, Tanner has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person and DUI.

According to police, Tanner lost control of his Chevy Monte Carlo around 2 p.m. that afternoon. The car left the roadway, cut a utility pole in half and collided with a tree.

A formal arraignment has been scheduled for May 24.
