Burglaries Throughout Township Increase

Reported burglaries have increased during the first three quarters over 2011, Northampton Township police said.

Burglaries throughout Northampton Township have increased since 2011, according to the police department.

"Northampton Township has seen an unacceptable increase in reported burglaries during the first three quarters over 2011," Police Chief Barry Pilla said in a special public service message.

According to the police department, the highest concentration of burglaries occurred midweek—Tuesday through Thursday—from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The primary area that has been affected was the sector of the township south of Newtown-Richboro Road and east of Holland Road.

"If you see or hear someone or something that is out of the ordinary or suspicious, please report it immediately," Pilla urged.

A comparison of reported burglaries for the first three quarters of 2011 v. 2012 revealed the following:

  • All reported burglaries and attempted burglaries for the first three quarters of 2011:  24
  • All reported burglaries and attempted burglaries for the first three quarters of 2012:  45

A recap of burglary information is as follows:

  • In 2012, 16 of the 45 reported burglaries to date were FORCIBLE - RESIDENTIAL – DAY TIME burglaries. 

Of the 16 residential burglaries reported In 2012:

  • 14 were reported between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • This compares to 3 similar type burglaries in 2011. 
  • The majority or 13 of the 16 burglaries were indicated to have occurred 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The highest concentration reported between:

  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • 62.5 percent happened mid-week (Tuesday 25 percent, Wednesday 18.75 percent and Thursday 18.75 percent)
  • Primarily reported in sectors south of Newtown-Richboro Road and east of Holland Road
