Car Crashes in Northampton at Lowest Level in a Decade

Traffic crashes in Northampton last year decreased to the lowest level in a decade, according to information from the police department.

In 2012, there were 631 car accidents in Northampton Township. That’s the fewest accidents the township has seen over the past 10 years.

Northampton Township Police Chief Barry Pilla said the reduction in accidents is a result of hard work by officers and succesful traffic enforcement campaigns. 

“We all should be quite proud of the due diligence, hard work and accomplishments of the officers of the Northampton Township Police Department. Their work, coupled with the wonderful cooperation of the members of our community, has resulted in a successful selective traffic enforcement campaign,” Pilla said. 

“We conduct several campaigns during each calendar year depending on our established need. These campaigns are obviously paying off in dividends for the community.” 

Traffic accidents have been decreasing in the township since 2010.  That year, there were 699 accidents. In 2011, there were 692 accidents. The year that saw the most car accidents in the past decade was 2004, when 1,003 traffic crashes occurred.

Additionally, Pilla reported that in 2012, injuries from traffic crashes in Northampton dropped by 28 percent from 2011.
