Parks and Recreation Visioning Meeting (New Date!)

The Northampton Township Parks and Recreation Board has begun work on the update of the Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan. This plan will address the current and future needs of the community as it pertains to recreation facility planning and maintenance, as well as personnel and programs. In addition to the customary topics included as a part of such a plan, a site drawing of the Township’s Recreation Complex, which the Recreation Center is a part of, will be prepared.  This drawing will identify potential changes and improvements needed to better serve the Township’s recreation needs.  The Township has contracted with Boucher and James Consultanting Engineers to complete this plan.  Judy Stern Goldstein, ASLA, R.L.A. will be the Principal-in-Charge and Valeri Liggett, R.L.A. will be the project manager for this project.  Dan Sharapan, Director of Parks and Recreation for Warwick Township will assist to provide additional park and recreation experience.

A Public Visioning Meeting has been scheduled for 7 pm, Thursday November 15 at the Township Administration Building and last about an hour. The public is invited and encourage to attend this meeting to discuss the Township’s Park System and Recreation Department.  Opportunity will be given for the public to provide input into what they believe is the future wants and needs of the community.  The meeting will include a brief introduction of the planning process and facilitated activities to get feedback on important topics pertaining to parks and recreation such as facility improvements, athletic fields, programs, special events and camps. These activities and discussions will occur in an open house format and participants may stay as long as they wish. All interested parties are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be held at the Township Administration Building.

The Township received a grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to fund this plan. The plan is expected to be adopted by April 2013.
